Day Assessment Unit

Day Assessment Unit (DAU) is an outpatient department to assess and monitor pregnant women with urgent or ongoing obstetric complications. Women are seen when referred by community midwives, GPs or other hospital departments. You may be referred to the DAU in pregnancy if your community midwife has any concerns about you or your baby's health. The community midwife will ensure that the DAU phone number is in records to refer to, and tell you which issues you will need to talk to us about if they arise in your pregnancy. Please contact the DAU directly if you have concerns in the evening, at nights or at the weekend. We do have to prioritise care for those in most need, so it is a good idea to bring something to read while you wait to be seen. We will endeavour to see you as soon as possible, but if you are worried about the waiting time, please do speak to the staff on duty. Pregnant women over 15 weeks pregnant can be referred to DAU for investigation and/or monitoring of acute problems relating to their pregnancy by GP, community midwife, or RBH antenatal clinic doctor referral. Women can also telephone to DAU at any time for advice, and if appropriate, will be advised to come in and be assessed in the DAU if they have any concerns.
