Albert Ward

Albert Ward supports patients with end stage renal failure requiring renal replacement therapy in the form of Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD).

CAPD is a therapy mainly performed by the patient to themselves in their own home. On Albert Ward we teach the patient, family and carers how to perform the dialysis.

Additionally, we provide maintenance, surveillance and on-going training to this patient group. The CAPD Unit also handles the maintenance IV drug therapy side of the care of some renal transplant and pre-dialysis patients.

The unit also performs native and transplanted kidney biopsies for patients who are suitable and assists the Haemodialysis Units with vascular access issues when required.

Always bring a list of current medication(s) and, if on CAPD, your current dialysis record book. If attending for CAPD training, or if your visit is likely to be more than two hours, bring reading material and a snack particularly if you are diabetic.
