Adult Fracture Clinic
The adult fracture clinic is extremely busy, sometimes seeing up to 90 patients a day and runs in the morning from Monday-Thursday each week.
Patients attending the fracture clinic may experience some delays as patients may need to have further investigations, for example have an X-ray or have wound care requirements. Priority may be given to patients relying on hospital transport during the clinic. A complex fracture clinic takes place on Thursdays.
You may be required to attend the plaster room during your visit in order to have a cast or support applied or removed as part of your treatment. Our plaster room is staffed by a team of experienced orthopaedic practitioners, nurses and trainees.
We run a fracture clinic service out of the Royal Berkshire Hospital and West Berkshire Community Hospital.
Virtual Fracture Clinic
Many patients will initially be referred to the Virtual Fracture Clinic to ensure that they are accurately diagnosed and treated in the appropriate clinic. Each referral is reviewed by one of our orthopaedic consultants to determine the appropriate management option for the patient. This prevents patients from being delayed in clinics or referred to the wrong appointment. Some patients can also be discharged directly with advice. All patients that are reviewed through the Virtual Fracture Clinic are contacted with an appropriate management plan.
