Bereavement Office
The Bereavement Office is here to support you when a relative or friend has died at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.
On behalf of the Trust, we would like to extend our sincere condolences. Please contact the Bereavement Team on the next working day following the death of your relative or friend. The Bereavement Team can explain what happens next and guide you through each step.
Office Opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm, by appointment only.
The Bereavement Team will ensure that the practical arrangements are completed in a timely, professional, and caring manner. They can also provide advice on the following:
- Any additional paperwork required
- Viewings (by appointment only and after completion of relevant paperwork)
- Collection of personal belongings (by appointment only)
- Registering the death
- Funeral arrangements
- The Medical Examiner Service
- Tissue donation
- The Coroners’ Service
Our bereavement booklets will provide additional information and guidance to help following your bereavement.
All deaths will be reviewed by a Medical Examiner (ME), an independent senior Doctor. This must take place before the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD) can be issued by the treating Doctor and the death registered. This process usually takes between 1 – 3 working days.
Alongside the Medical Examiner Service, your family, friends or general practitioner (GP), you may feel that you need some extra support. You may wish to contact other services and organisations for ongoing help and support following your bereavement.
