Bereavement Office

The Bereavement Office is here to support you when a loved one has died at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.

On behalf of the Trust, we would like to extend our sincere condolences. The Bereavement Team are here to support you through the next steps of the process. Please contact the Bereavement Team the first working day following the death of your loved one.

The Bereavement Team will ensure that the practical arrangements are complete in a timely, professional, and caring manner. They can also provide advice on the following:

  • Any additional paperwork required
  • Viewings (by appointment only and after completion of relevant paperwork)
  • Collection of property and valuables (by appointment only)
  • How to register the death
  • Making funeral arrangements
  • The Medical Examiner Service
  • Tissue donation
  • The Coroners’ Service

Our bereavement support booklet will provide additional information and guidance to help following your bereavement.

All deaths that take place within the Trust will be reviewed by a Medical Examiner (ME), an independent senior Doctor. This must take place before the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD) can be issued by the treating Doctor and the death registered. This process can take between 1 – 3 working days.
